2018 Beulah Brinton House Concert Season!

April 30, May 14 & June 4 (Main event)

Storytellers are wanted for an event on June 4th at Puddler’s Hall, a collaboration between the Bay View Historical Society and Ex Fabula. The theme of the evening is immigration.

We are looking for people who are interested in sharing their stories about how their families made it to Bay View. Your stories can be historical or modern day, from a land far away or just nearby.

The commitment for the event is three Monday evenings. The first two meetings are workshops on April 30 and May 14th from 6:30–8:30 at the Beulah Brinton House, 2590 S. Superior Street. The main event will be at Puddler’s Hall on June 4 at 6:30pm.

Ex Fabula is a Milwaukee nonprofit that strengthens community bonds through the art of storytelling. StorySlams are spaces where adults can connect over true, personal stories.

Bill Staines in Concert

Bill Staines is one of the most durable and beloved singers on the folk music scene today. Staines has twenty-six recordings to his credit and has written over three hundred songs, many of which have been recorded by the likes of Peter, Paul, and Mary, Makem and Clancy, Nancy Griffith, Glen Yarbrough, and Jerry Jeff Walker. His music is sung at campfires and folk music gatherings, in homes and churches, all around the country. On stage, Staines is an intimate, compelling performer, out of the folk scene of the 60’s, encouraging his audience to sing with him on his chorus songs. He will mix in traditional tunes with his own contemporary folk ballads. His humorous tales of life on the road and observations of everyday people provide an entertaining blend of story and song.

Anne Hills ~ “One of the most glorious voices in all of contemporary folk music.”

– The Chicago Tribune

Anne Hills is one of the most beloved voices of the contemporary folk music scene, receiving awards and recognition for her live performances, her unique solo and collaborative recording projects, and her overall artistry and benefit work. Her song “Follow That Road” was the title cut of the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter Retreat and has been a certified folk classic since the late 1990s. Whether she is singing her own songs, the words of six-year-old Opal Whiteley, or her song settings of the Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley; accompanied with her guitar, banjo, or simply a Tibetan bell, she puts her whole heart and soul into the moment. You won’t want to miss a chance to hear her songs and stories in person.

Suggested donation $20.

Workshop: “Healthy Singing” is at 1:30p.m.
The $35 cost includes both workshop & concert. Open to students of all levels. Workshop materials will be provided.
